So, I should be about finished my great American (/Canadian) novel by now, right?

Um ... not exactly. My days have not really been filled with feverish novel writing, though I have been writing a lot for my employer and various freelance places, I promise. (Evidence here and here and here.)

Although the little quirks of Canadian life continue to fascinate me, I've decided to put the blog on hold for a while (hence the month-long absence) to concentrate on all that real-life stuff beyond the comforting glow of the computer screen. Scary, but potentially rewarding, I hope! I'm even trying to host a holiday party, though I'm not entirely sure I know enough people to fill a room, so if you're in Canada next Saturday do stop by for some appetizers. (Seconds spent trying to spell hors d'oevres before I gave up and went with appetizers: 30. I think there's a U in there somewhere, but free Quebec or no, I just don't have time for it.)

So, thank you to the literally tens of people who read this blog, and wish me luck in the real world. Love,

Rebecca

You're kidding, right? How will I know what's going on in my daughter's life if you don't blog. I didn't even know you were having a party - brave woman!

Your blog has been our lifeline to our "Canadian" family. We have enjoyed every blog, and particularly reading about your impressions of Canada. We know how busy you are-those articles are wonderful, and hope you perhaps will start blogging again in the spring. Take a well earned winter break BTW, can we crash next weekend?!Love, R and S

I wish you the best in the real world -- you are going to charm everyone, I know it! As for the rest of us who are obliged to keep up with you from a distance (because we live really-really far away, like on the other side of the planet), we will miss your witty, tender and always intelligent observations of life. I hope you get write a column someday and it gets syndicated so millions will read it.

The Great A/C Novel? Sure you can, you can, you can. And maybe you can give us sneak peeks along the way? Your blog inspired me to do the same, and maybe your novel will lead me even further down this road of degradation. So stay well, keep us posted, but don't include your Carolina Kin in the book. We love 'ya, whatever you write!
